Offsite event - Westlake Boys Water Polo Team Takes on the Kitchen
Late last month, we had the pleasure of hosting a team-building offsite event for the water polo team from Westlake Boys High School. Despite the wet and gloomy Auckland weather, the event turned out to be a fantastic session.
The ran the experience at school premises and was designed as a quick, high-energy, two-hour Street Kitchen Challenge. It was a perfect midday-activity before the team headed back to their afternoon training.
From the moment the aprons went on, the boys jumped straight into the action. Working in small teams, they chopped, cooked, plated, and competed in a friendly culinary showdown. With a bit of guidance from our head chef, Jean, the group quickly found their rhythm in the kitchen.
What stood out most was the level of teamwork and sportsmanship on display. The players communicated well, supported each other under pressure, and showed the same discipline and focus they bring to the pool. It was a great reminder that the skills that make a strong sports team; collaboration, leadership, and trust, translate perfectly into the kitchen.
By the end of the session, the teams had produced impressive dishes and, more importantly, shared plenty of laughs along the way. It was a fun, hands-on experience that brought the group together outside of their usual training environment.
At Social Cooking, we love working with schools, clubs, and sports teams to create interactive team-building experiences that are both enjoyable and meaningful. Whether you’re looking for a short activity between training sessions or a full-day, we can host your group at one of our venues or bring an offsite event directly to you.
If you’re planning a team day for your school or club, get in touch with us to design a cooking challenge tailored to your group.
