Anyone Can Be a MasterChef: Inside Social Cooking's MasterChef Challenge
If you've ever shouted at the TV convinced you could plate up better than a MasterChef contestant, here's your chance to prove it. Social Cooking's MasterChef Challenge brings the drama, teamwork and kitchen chaos of the show straight into your next team building day — minus the cameras (and hopefully minus the tears).
How It Works
The format is simple, fast-paced and built for teams. Your colleagues split into groups, raid the pantry for fresh ingredients, and race the clock to cook up the most flavourful, best-looking dish they can. It's not just about who can cook — every team needs planners, tasters, platers and cheerleaders, so there's a role for everyone. Even the self-confessed kitchen disasters find a way to contribute.
A typical MasterChef Challenge runs like this:
30 minutes — Settle in with a drink and some nibbles while you brief the team and get ready to compete
1 hour — Cook time. Teams create a full meal from the pantry, plus a tasting plate for the judges
45 minutes — Sit down together and enjoy the meal your team just cooked, while the chef judges each dish
45 minutes — Dessert (chef-prepared, no competition required) and the big reveal of the winning team
By the end, everyone walks away fed, entertained, and just a little more competitive with their coworkers than when they arrived.
Why It Works for Teams
The MasterChef format naturally forces collaboration under pressure — teams need to plan, delegate and problem-solve together to get a dish on the table in time. It's the same skills that make a good workplace team, just with knives and a countdown clock instead of a Monday meeting.
Try a MasterChef Brunch
Not every team is at their sharpest by 6pm. Social Cooking also runs the MasterChef Challenge as a brunch format — a great way to kick off the day with some hands-on collaboration before everyone heads back to the office fed, energised and ready to tackle whatever's next.
