Start Your Christmas Party the Right Way: Brunch Sessions That Beat the Big Night Out

Let's be honest — by the time December rolls around, every corporate calendar is stacked with evening work dos, dinners, and drinks. The food blurs together, the conversations get repetitive, and by the third event your team is running on autopilot.

So why not flip the script this year and start the celebrations earlier in the day? At Social Cooking, we've built our Christmas brunch sessions to do exactly that — a great option for corporate and business groups looking to celebrate the year that was, without another late night in a function room.

Why Brunch Is the New Christmas Party

A daytime cooking session brings a different kind of energy. People show up fresher, more present, and genuinely up for getting involved — rather than clock-watching until they can politely leave. It's a great way to kick the day off before heading into other end-of-year activities, whether that's drinks, a team outing, or simply a well-earned afternoon off.

Instead of sitting through another round of speeches over reheated canapés, your group is split into teams and goes head-to-head in a live cooking competition, with one of our chefs judging the dishes at the end. It's hands-on, it's social, and it actually feels like a celebration rather than an obligation — a genuinely fun way to reward the team.

Choose Your Challenge

We offer two competitive team formats, depending on how much time you've got and how your group likes to cook:

MasterChef Challenge — 3 hours

Teams work from a wide pantry of ingredients and build a dish from scratch, calling on their own creativity and cooking instincts. It's the format for groups who want more freedom to plan, experiment, and put their own spin on the brief.

Mystery Box Challenge — 3 hours

Every team receives the same box of mystery ingredients, with a few extra pantry items available to make things special. It's a true test of quick thinking and teamwork, as everyone works from the same starting point but ends up with a completely different dish.

Street Kitchen Challenge — 2 hours

A slightly shorter, punchier team competition inspired by street food culture. Great if your group is tight on time but still wants a proper hands-on, competitive cooking experience.

In every format, teams cook head-to-head and our chef tastes and judges each dish to crown a winner. It doesn't matter if your team can barely boil an egg or you've got a few closet MasterChef fans — everyone has a role to play, and every team is in it to win.

The Details That Make It Easy

  • Barista-made coffee — because no one's brunching without a proper flat white in hand

  • Fully licensed from 11am — for those who want to ease into festive mode with a mimosa or a cold beer once the cooking wraps up

  • Sessions kick off from 10am — with earlier start times available if your group needs it

  • Groups from 8 to 100 — small enough for an intimate team celebration, large enough for a full company party

  • Dessert - included with all 3 hour events

  • Auckland only — hosted in our Parnell premises

The Perfect Warm-Up to Your Christmas Celebrations

Think of it as the opening act to your festive season. Get the team together while everyone's still got energy, let them compete, cook, laugh, and eat something they're actually proud of — then send them off into the rest of the day's festivities already in a great mood.

No soggy canapés. No awkward small talk over a cheese platter. Just good food, good coffee, and a genuinely fun way to kick off your Christmas party season.
